Kolkata, February 25, 2026: In a significant step towards formalizing the street food sector, the National Hawker Federation (NHF), in collaboration with the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, organized a comprehensive training session on Food Safety and Hygiene for city food hawkers today. The event was held at Uttam Mancha.

The primary objective of the program was to prepare Kolkata’s vast network of food vendors for the upcoming Vendor Certification process. The training was expertly conducted by Mr. Abhijit Sarkar, who provided government-accredited instruction on essential safety protocols.

NHF General Secretary, Mr. Shaktiman Ghosh, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of hygiene in building consumer trust and sustaining livelihoods. Mr. Murad Hossain from the Hawker Sangram Committee was also present, lending their support to the initiative.

A wave of enthusiasm swept through the attendees following the announcement of free Food Licenses by the state government. The vendors expressed immense joy and relief at this support, viewing it as a major boost in their journey towards formal recognition and certification.
